Alita: Battle Angel: Check Out Rosa Salazar's Intense Training In Exclusive Clip

Playing a role like the central character in director Robert Rodriguezs Alita: Battle Angel is a task that requires a lot of CGI work, and a good amount of mocap to boot. But on top of those fantastical elements is a very physical component, something that actor Rosa Salazar, and everyone else involved in the films production, totally understood.

Now, in preparation for the films home video release, we have an exclusive clip of just how intense Salazars training regimen was, and its pretty impressive. See for yourself below:

As mentioned in the Alita: Battle Angel video above, it took roughly 5-6 months of training after Roza Salazar got the role to get her in shape for the part. That in and of itself is impressive, considering most films probably would have just used CGI stunt doubles and flashy effects to nail down the impressive way Alita moves throughout her travels in Iron City.

But watching the footage from the various training sessions, as well as remarks from folks like Salazar, producer Jon Landau, and stunt coordinator Garrett Warren, its amazing to see just how much practical work went into getting Alita: Battle Angels central character battle ready. Seeing Rosa train in everything from martial arts to roller blading, which definitely came in handy during the Motorball sequences, is a feat that speaks to the dedication that is seen in every inch of this films being.

But, of course, its not just Rosa Salazar behind Alitas impressive physical thrills. As the actor herself discusses further in the clip above, there was a handful of women that threw themselves physically into portraying Alita: Battle Angels protagonist, particularly in service of the following skills:

It takes a lot of girls to bring Alita to life. It takes about nine girls. Im doing all the acting, and doing all I can do martial arts wise. But then there are other girls who take it from there, who can twirl through the air six times, who can contort their bodies because theyve been doing it since birth. They really take it to the next level.

Knowing the level of detail that producer James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez were looking to impart onto Alita: Battle Angels blend of practical skills and effects, as well as cutting edge CGI, the level of effort required to really nail Alitas role seems like par for the course. That doesnt rob Rosa Salazar or any of the stunt performers and trainers who aided her in shaping the outcome of the film, as no matter how clear the path to such a result may seem, its never as simple as showing up and putting in the minimum effort.

Alita: Battle Angel wont be on Digital HD until July 9, with 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD releases landing on July 23.

Avengers: Endgame is reaching an endgame for its own runtime. Before we knew for sure that Avengers 4 would get Doctor Strange's Infinity War quote as its title, co-director Joe Russo gave an update from early post-production. Now that a bit more time has passed, he sounds more confident about where the film will land:

There's a high probability that this movie will clock in at around three hours. It's a big movie with a lot of story.

If Joe Russo told Empire Magazine there's a "high probability" that something will happen in his own movie, you can pretty much rest assured that it will happen. Avengers: Endgame will clock in around three hours.

About a month ago, Joe Russo had said Avengers 4 was currently sitting right at three hours, but he added, "We'll see if that holds." Joe and Anthony Russo were busy shooting additional footage after filming Avengers: Endgame back-to-back with Avengers: Infinity War. They planned to be in post-production through early 2019. They said they hoped to be done by March, which is when Captain Marvel -- the first MCU film of 2019 -- comes to theaters.

Avengers: Endgame just revealed its first trailer and official title earlier in December. That's also when it was confirmed that the film would be moving from early May to a release date of April 26, 2019.

If the plan is to be in post-production until March, it's possible some last-minute changes could affect the runtime. But it sounds like the Russos are pretty much set on it being around three hours. Does that mean 3 hours, 5 minutes, or 2 hours 50 minutes? Anything over 2 hours 40 minutes will beat Avengers: Infinity War, which is already the longest MCU movie to date.

You'd expect Avengers: Endgame to be longer, since it's the culmination of this story. As Joe Russo said, it's a big movie with a lot to cover. Someone has to save Tony Stark, not to mention try to save the half of the planet that was snapped by Thanos. Hawkeye has to rejoin the story after his Infinity War absence. Scott Lang's Ant-Man has to tie himself to the Quantum Realm plot. And of course there will be a lot more footage than Marvel doesn't show us in any upcoming trailers.

It's not like Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige would be breathing down the Russos' necks to cut footage for a shorter runtime. They could run this puppy for five hours and fans would show up. Gladly.

The official final Avengers: Endgame runtime won't be announced until much closer to the film's release in spring 2019, but plan for three hours -- plus previews. Plus popcorn time. Plus pre-film trips to the bathroom. You know it's coming April 26, 2019, and here's what else is ahead in the massive 2019 film schedule.

Recently, Mark Hamill pointed out that he's never met the woman who played his mother in the Star Wars universe. It turns out, she's open to finally meeting her son as well. Natalie Portman was a recent guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and the host directed Portman's attention to Hamill's tweet, and it turns out that Portman agrees that the fact that she's never met her on-screen son is a travesty. She appealed directly to the actor on Colbert and told him she wants to get together, saying...

I know, it's such a shame. I would love to meet him. Mark, I'd love to meet you.

On the one hand, it seems bizarre that Mark Hamill and Natalie Portman have never met. They've both been actors in Hollywood for decades, and both have been part of the Star Wars universe for this entire century. You'd think they would have crossed paths at a Hollywood party or some sort of Star Wars event but apparently, it's never happened. Of course, Portman has been busy winning Academy Awards and things in recent years and hasn't really made herself a regular part of Star Wars fandom since filming the prequels, so perhaps it's not all that shocking.

Although Natalie Portman is a little upset with her "son" as, in his tweet about the fact that he'd never met his "mom," which was sent on the occasion of Natalie Portman's birthday, he neglected to actually wish her a happy birthday. Typical son, he doesn't call, he doesn't write, forgets to wish his mother a happy birthday.

The fact that the pair have never met doesn't mean they're not connected, however. Stephen Colbert himself points out that, since he knows both of them, he might be the thing holding the entire Star Wars universe together.

I've spent more time with Mark Hamill than you have, and I've spent more time with you than Mark Hamill has. It's like I'm the center of the Star Wars universe.

We'll have to wait and see if Padme and Luke ever get a real chance to meet each other. A recent exchange on Twitter of mutual admiration between Mark Hamill and James Gunn eventually led to a real-life meeting between the two, and possibly a job for Hamill, so perhaps that will happen here as well.

The fact is that, possibly due to the negative reception the prequels often get, many of the actors involved have not been as much a regular part of Star Wars fandom as other. Although, Hayden Christiansen, Mark Hamill's Star Wars dad did make an appearance at the recent Star Wars Celebration, so perhaps enough time has passed that they can all embrace Star Wars again, after all, there's a whole new movie out for fans to hate on.
