Why Sebastian Stan Thinks He Would Be A Good Fit For The Black Widow Movie

The very nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe creates an environment in which different Marvel heroes can meet and intermingle with one another. This idea will come to a head later this month when Avengers: Infinity War finally debuts, but the release of the big crossover event hasn't stopped some from looking even further into the future. In fact, when asked about the possibility of appearing in the potential Black Widow solo movie, actor Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes in various Marvel movies, recently opened up and admitted that he's interested in exploring their dynamic from the comics. Stan said:

They have a very nice history in my opinion. It's very intricate ... He was a teacher to her. It's all set during a specific, interesting time. The Cold War. It's all very ... spy, thrillerish, noirish story ... it would be very interesting to explore that on film. I would love if they do that. You know, I hope. Maybe they will.

Bucky Barnes and Natasha Romanoff are two of the most highly-skilled anti-heroes in the entire MCU, and it's pretty easy to see how their combat abilities could work together. Of course, as Sebastian Stan explained, that possibility is made even more interesting and exciting due to the fact The Winter Soldier and Black Widow have a fascinating dynamic in the comics that the Marvel movies haven't really touched upon yet. Specifically, in the source material, Bucky is portrayed as a mentor (and sometimes lover) of Natasha, and their adventures are very grounded, gritty, and espionage-based.

This is something many Marvel fans already knew ahead of Sebastian Stan's recent remarks to Bad Taste. In fact, the hints at their long relationship extend as far back as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, during the hospital scene in which Widow tells Captain American about an encounter she had with The Winter Soldier years earlier. Check it out, below.

Of course, it would take some creative work to fit The Winter Soldier into a Black Widow movie naturally. The MCU Black Widow arguably seems a bit too young to ever appear in a Cold War-era Marvel movie, and the two heroes don't formally meet one another until 2014. That said, if Marvel can come up with a way to pair them up after the release of Avengers 4, then it looks like Sebastian Stan is on board to explore this beloved partnership.

Only time will tell if the long-rumored Black Widow movie will actually materialize on the Phase 4 slate, but we will bring you more information about the project (as well as more updates related to The Winter Soldier's potential presence in it) as new details are made available to us. As for this year, make sure to catch Bucky Barnes and Black Widow in Avengers: Infinity War, which will debut later this month on April 27.

Sebastian Stan does fine with the roles and opportunities he gets. Why on earth do you think he should do any better? I've never noticed him as looking particularly "ethnic" or seeming to be limited in his roles because of that. I think you might be seeing something that's no there due to your (apparent) SS obsession.
