6 Amazing Marvel Movies That Didn't Actually Happen

Ever since it first hopped into the world of movies, Marvel has given the world some of the best superhero films of all time. From Blade to Avengers: Endgame, there's plenty of films that have emerged from the studio that will be remembered for decades to come. With all of that said, would it be hard to believe that for every great movie Marvel has given the world the company has walked away from an equally great idea?

It's true, and while it's impossible to truly know if any of these amazing movie ideas that didn't happen would've been as successful as classics such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier or Thor: Ragnarok, there's certainly enough to make one think they had a decent shot. Whether it's a famed director's vision of a currently existing character or an idea that was birthed long before the MCU ever existed, Marvel's left some potentially amazing films behind to fade away.

X-Men Origins: MagnetoIt may be a bad look to kick things off with an X-Men Origins idea, especially considering the various missteps that happened in the development of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That said, the one consistent thing about the X-Men franchise is its inconsistency, so maybe another X-Men Origins movie would've knocked it out of the park. That feels like a strong possibility with Magneto involved, as the complicated villain has always been a fascinating character in Marvel continuity.

The story was set between 1939 and 1955, and would've featured Ian McKellen reprising his role via the de-aged CGI method used in X-Men: The Last Stand, and a younger actor would portray him in flashbacks. Charles Xavier would've came into the picture as a liberator at Magneto's concentration camp, and the film would establish the two's rivalry and the birth of the X-Men. The film never happened, but portions were said to have been used for X-Men: First Class.

Sam Raimi's ThorThe year was 1991, and Sam Raimi had just finished filming Darkman. In search of a new project, Raimi teamed up with Marvel's Stan Lee to attempt to pitch a Thor movie to 20th Century Fox. The two men were shot down by the studio, which said, as Sam Raimi recalled to THR, that "comic books don't make good movies."

Now, we have no idea what Sam Raimi and Stan Lee's Thor movie would've been like, but let's remember that Raimi was an integral part to the surge in Marvel's success in the late '90s. Had the director been able to do for Thor what he did for Spider-Man in 1999, the MCU might've gotten a much quicker start than it did, although we're not sure who they would've found back then who's been better than Chris Hemsworth.

Guillermo Del Toro's Doctor StrangeGuillermo del Toro's amazing cancelled projects could be an entirely separate article, as the famed director has had so many great ideas that never panned out for one reason or another. This includes his take on Doctor Strange which, get this, would've been penned by science fiction legend Neil Gaiman. Even if del Toro doesn't have the best track record at getting around to passion projects, why would Marvel ever say no to that?

It's probably because the two pitched the idea in 2007, a full year before Marvel would bring Iron Man to the big screen. That would've been too soon for the world to see whatever Neil Gaiman and Guillermo del Toro would concoct with their collaboration, but man, what could've been had they both been available a decade later. Of course, Marvel was deep into their planned layout for the MCU by that point, which likely would've compromised the original vision both men had.

Spider-Man 4In lieu of the recent news that had some fans excited this movie was actually happening, it's worth mentioning that Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 had a pretty great concept. Lots of ideas about what the next film would've been about have surfaced over the years, with folks like John Malkovich being teased as The Vulture, or Bruce Campbell's character eventually being revealed to be the villain Mysterio.

Surprisingly, plans weren't derailed when Tobey Maguire was thought unlikely to return, but they did fall through when Sam Raimi said he wasn't interested in making any direct sequels following Spider-Man 3. The death of Spider-Man 4 effectively killed the 5th and 6th sequel, and a spinoff featuring Topher Grace's Venom. So obviously the cancellation wasn't all bad, and it did allow Sony to revitalize the franchise and freshen things up a bit.

Moon KnightAsk any devoted Marvel comics fan which hero hasn't gotten a film that needs one, and Moon Knight will often top the list. It turns out James Gunn actually pitched a movie featuring him in 2017, but admitted outright he was far too busy with Guardians of the Galaxy to work on it. Since then he's picked up The Suicide Squad as well, so we're assuming a James Gunn Moon Knight project isn't being announced in Phase 4.

The idea of a Moon Knight movie is intriguing, but it is a legitimate question whether or not Marvel will ever pursue it. After all, it's no secret that there are a ton of similarities between the hero and DC's Batman, who remains a cinematic powerhouse for DC even with Marvel's popularity. Marvel wouldn't want to look like it's mimicking DC, especially in its current age of dominance in the superhero genre, which may be why this movie never happens.

Joe Carnahan's DaredevilBefore Marvel ultimately rebooted Daredevil into an acclaimed television series, Joe Carnahan had an idea of how to bring the hero back from the embarrassing Daredevil feature that starred Ben Affleck. His vision? Set Daredevil in the '70s and have Matt Murdock going up against Kingpin in a drama filled with violence and lots of blood. Carnahan dropped a sizzle reel for his vision on Twitter, and the world was impressed.

Fox, which still had the rights to Daredevil back then, wasn't though, and ultimately Daredevil was rebooted at Marvel without Joe Carnahan's plans being given a second thought. It's a shame considering Carnahan's vision included a trilogy set across three distinct periods of American culture, and were to be drenched in a style similar to the popular music trends of each respective era. It sounds like a great concept, but would it have been better than the three season Netflix series? We can't say for sure.

Luckily, Marvel is still cranking out plenty of great movies that make the ones it has left behind more forgivable. Stick with CinemaBlend for updates on all of the upcoming ones, and the low down on what's rumored for the future.

John Wick Chapter 3 Is The Type Of Movie Star Anjelica Huston Usually Hates

John Wick Chapter 3 Is The Type Of Movie Star Anjelica Huston Usually Hates

The John Wick franchise has never been short on talent, but it is getting a major infusion of it for John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum with two Oscar winners, Halle Berry and Anjelica Huston. As a former Bond girl who also was Storm in the X-Men franchise, were used to seeing Halle Berry in these kinds of movies, but it is less familiar for Anjelica Huston. In fact, John Wick: Chapter 3 is the type of movie Anjelica Huston usually hates, as she explained:

I dont like violent movies. But I like this movie. This is a movie about a guy whos basically avenging the death of his puppy. Jesus, Im passionate about dogs. Its a huge thing.

Generally speaking, youre far more likely to find Anjelica Huston in a Wes Anderson film or voicing a character in a kids animated series than in a violent action film. And perhaps that is the result of her distaste for violence. Yet, for someone who doesnt like violent movies, she really dove into the deep end of the genre with John Wick: Chapter 3.

This franchise is one of the most violent out there (although not especially bloody), with kill counts measured in the triple digits. The actress was cool with it here, and actually likes Parabellum because it isnt senseless violence, this series started with John Wick simply trying to avenge the murder of his dog.

As a good dog owner who loved his pet, John Wicks violent response is really quite appropriate given the circumstances, restrained even. Anjelica Huston clearly understands and likes this about the character because as she told Vulture, she is passionate about dogs and actually owns three dogs herself, in addition to a sheep, 13 goats and 5 horses.

Anjelica Huston is clearly an animal lover and that made her like this movie more than most violent fare. Which is kind of a fun contrast considering that in the trailer for John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, her character the Director, a Russian ballet instructor, incredulously asks Keanu Reeves character, All of this for what, because of a puppy?

So despite her usual aversion to violent movies, Anjelica Huston signed on to John Wick: Chapter 3-Parabelleum and it didnt take much convincing for her to do so, as she explained:

Oh God, its so easy. Quite honestly, Im looking for movies that impress me in some way, that arent apologetically humble or humiliating like, Band of cheerleaders gets back together for one last hurrah, you know. An old-lady cheerleader movie. I dont like that kind of thing. If Im going to be an old lady and Im sort of touching old lady these days at least I want to be a special old lady. I dont want to be relegated to some has-been making a comeback. I hate comebacks.

On top of her affinity for John Wicks responsible pet ownership, Anjelica Huston seems to also have really appreciated her character in the film. As she said, she likes to play a special old lady and while we haven't seen a lot from the Director just yet, she appears to fit that bill and was special enough to impress Anjelica Huston.

The Director appears to be a sage, somewhat sassy character and as a member of the High Table, she has some sort of influence. That John Wick appears to go to her for help means that she may be an old lady, but her years have put her in a position of major power. Basically, shes cool.

This is in contrast to the other kinds of characters Anjelica Huston would rather not play, ones that are somewhat humiliating, making age into a source of humor or something to be triumphed over and not one of dignity. Its an understandable opinion to have and thankfully, John Wick: Chapter 3 had a role that was suitable and appealing enough to bring her aboard.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum opens on May 17. Check out our 2019 Release Schedule to see all the biggest movies headed your way this summer season.

A Major Avengers: Infinity War Theory Has Just Been Confirmed

A Major Avengers: Infinity War Theory Has Just Been Confirmed

Stop reading this right now if you haven't seen Avengers: Infinity War. For real. We are about to get into MAJOR spoilers, so bail now before you go any further. You have been warned!

By the end of the latest Marvel movie, Avengers: Infinity War, Joe and Anthony Russo had eliminated half of the existing universe. Thanos (Josh Brolin) succeeded in obtaining all of the Infinity Stones, and with the snap of his fingers, he turns half of the universe to dust. In between the snap and his final teleportation, the Russos give Thanos a touching -- and somewhat confusing -- scene where he interacts with a very young Gamora, and his step-daughters asks the Titan what he had to sacrifice to win. He admits that it was everything. Now, Joe Russo is explaining that this scene exists because Gamora is in the Soul Stone. Russo recently said:

It's implied it's the Soul Stone. It's all orange around, then he's inside the soul stone with the amount of power that it took to snap his fingers -- he has this out of body experience with Thanos. When he goes inside the Soul Stone, he has this kind of conversation with the younger version of his Gamora.

Joe Russo was speaking with a group of students on Monday at Iowa City High School, and a student who reportedly attended the event provided a transcription of what was revealed on Reddit. There are photos to back up this event (the Iowa City Press Citizen also covered Joe Russo's appearance), so these quotes come with some credibility. When asked to confirm if this means that Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is IN the Soul Stone, Russo elaborated:

She in fact is, yes.... It was an attempt, an attempt on our part -- because we don't like two dimensional roles or three dimensional villains, every villain is a hero in their own story and as insane and psychotic and brutal and violent as Thanos is, he's a more complex villain if you go on a journey with him emotionally. He does care for things, and it is complicated for him to execute his plan, and it cost him something. He said at the end 'It cost him everything,' and that it was the only thing he loved which was Gamora. Which is why we put him back with her at the end. I just want to reiterate with the audience that he does feel true emotion, even though he is a monster.

One of the biggest questions on the lips of Avengers fans coming out of Infinity War was, "Are the dead going to stay dead?" Yes, Joe and Anthony Russo killed off Black Panther and Spider-Man, but those heroes are expected to have sequels. There's no WAY they could stay dead. But Gamora (Zoe Saldana) seemed like a real sacrifice. She was killed pre-snap, meaning -- we thought -- her death was permanent. But Joe Russo already appears to be laying the groundwork for the possibility that Gamora will return in Avengers 4, and probably fight alongside her fellow Guardians in the already-announced Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Answers should be revealed when Avengers 4 opens next year. Until then, bookmark our special Marvel Movies homepage to stay up to date on all of the MCU happenings.

They have shot the bulk of the movie already. I can't imagine that Ron Howard is going to go in and top-to-bottom restructure the movie. If they didn't believe that what was shot was salvagable they probably wouldn't bother hiring Ron Howard at all. I imagine we're gonna see 70% maybe 60% L&M.
